Well, I fell to the bottom of the basement and am fully embarrassed by my picks for week 10, but I was sick so I wasn't thinking clearly! That's my story and I am sticking to it!
What to talk about. Well, there were a lot of good games this week.
For the second straight week the Jets took a game to overtime on the road with a 20-20 score to break. The results? Both ended with a Jets win, 23-20 and 26-20 respectively.
My surprise of the week? Well, that has to go to the Dallas Cowboys, who are under the guidance of interim head coach Jason Garrett, stunned Eli Manning and the Giants 33-20.
No longer are there any win-less teams in the NFL. The Buffalo Bills defeated the Stafford-less Lions 14-12. Bad news is looming for Lions fans, who have seen their team suffer greatly in recent seasons, but come back and winning two games this season with Matthew Stafford at the helm. Now he's hurt yet again and the Lions are back to their losing ways. Unfortunately for Lions fans and Matthew Stafford, his most recent shoulder separation injury is going to sideline him for the rest of this season and could possibly end his career before it even got started. It's such a disappointment for all involved, as Stafford is a talented young quarterback that hasn't really had the chance to prove himself on the field.
Perhaps one of the best games to watch this week for competitive reasons was Thursday Night Football, Ravens at Falcons. I picked wrong, as was the case with so many other games, but the comeback mounted by the Ravens was admirable, but they left too much time on the clock and just didn't play defense and it led to a last second score by the Falcons to continue their dominance on their home field!
When you think rivalries, Steelers Patriots is one of the good ones. Many teams have rivalries with the Steelers, but these two teams just do not like each other. What was thought to be a highlight game taking place on Sunday Night Football, fell flat on so many levels. The Steelers, riddled with injuries to their offensive line, just couldn't put anything together falling, 39-26 to the Patriots.
My ARE YOU KIDDING ME (in my Jason Thompson-Sacramento Kings player voice) game has got to be the the Houston Jacksonville game. That game should have gone into overtime, but in a bizarre twist of fate and sheer stupidity really, Houston's Glover Quinn was trying to pull off a volleyball spike of the football, failed miserably and instead of driving the ball to the ground, he batted it into the hands of Mike Thomas.
One expected a battle in Monday Night Football. Donovan McNabb made his return to Philadelphia earlier this season and stole a win as now Eagles quarterback, Michael Vick was sandwiched near the goal line sending him to the sidelines for the remainder of that game and for a few games to follow. Of course I expected the Eagles to go in looking for revenge. The emotions were flowing early as both teams got into a pretty heated pre-game...commotion. The first play of the game took 18 seconds to end...with a HUGE exclamation point!!!! Vick connected with DeSean Jackson for an 88-yard touch down pass. It didn't stop there. The Eagles would go on to score three more touchdowns before the end of the quarter. The Redskins...couldn't even get a first down. To start the second quarter, just 9 seconds in, Vick connected with Jeremy Maclin for a 48-yard touchdown pass. The play was reviewed, but it was too close to tell if Maclin had skimmed out of bounds before rolling into the end zone, so the ruling on the field stood. Vick became the first player in NFL history to have at least 300 passing yards, 50 rushing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, and 2 rushing touchdowns. His performance was nearly flawless as the Eagles defeated the Redskins 59-28.
